*Guest Post* - Sandwich Art

Sandwich Art: A Fun and Frugal Art Project for Kids and Parents

There is nothing more fun and entertaining for kids than doing a project or game that lets them break one of the little rules. This is why kids love activities that make a complete mess, involve loud noises, or keep them up late at night. There's something about that thrill of breaking the rules right in front of the adults that just gets kids excited. Sandwich Art is a fun creative project to do with your kids that allow them play with their food and create something beautiful to eat. This project is inexpensive and easy to do any day with basic things you probably have around the house.

Ingredients

1. Paper Cups
2. New Paintbrushes
3. Milk
4. Food Coloring
5. White Bread
6. Toaster

Get Started
First, clear a clean space for your kids to start working. Clear off a table and put down newspaper or butcher paper to keep the table clean. Have your kids help you collect all of the necessary ingredients and supplies.
Once you have everything collected fill each paper cup with two tablespoons of milk. Add a few drops of food coloring to each cup. You can have as many different colors as you and your kids would like. You can also use this as an opportunity to explore mixing colors with your kids. Show them that adding red and blue coloring together will make a purple "paint" or that blue and yellow coloring will make green. Your kids will really enjoy mixing the "paints" and creating all of the different colors to create their sandwich masterpiece.

Now, give your little artists fresh paintbrushes and a slice of bread each. Paint pictures and designs on the bread using the colored milk. You can join in with your kids to create a unique and beautiful sandwich art piece. If you want to make a really unique sandwich you can use cookie cutters to shape the painted bread into something new.
Lastly, toast the slices of painted bread lightly in a toaster. This will help to make the bread a little crispier after soaking up some of the colored milk. Use this decorated bread as the topper for your child's favorite sandwich and enjoy lunch after your project.

Your kids will love this project because they are encouraged to play with their food and they get to create something fun and beautiful. This project is extremely inexpensive and easy to put together. Perfect for the frugal mother on the go, try this out as a quick art project before lunch and let us know how it goes.
