Sly Park Waterfall @ Jenkinson Lake

If you are located anywhere near the Sacramento area, a great place to visit is the waterfall at Sly Park Recreation Area.  It is located in what I like to refer to as "Natures Wonderland", Pollok Pines, California. I have visited Sly Park a couple times now. Once on a camping trip and another time on a hike.  The lake is absolutely gorgeous, and the recreation area offers many fun things to do while your there.

On our first trip to Sly Park we decided to take a weekend camping trip.  The first thing that I noticed was that our camping site was on a slope, and the second thing I noticed was that how small the camping spots were. Because the camping spots were so small, we were very close to other campers,  which was quite uncomfortable.

Besides those two factors everything else was very nice.  There is a store right across from the area, which makes it very convenient to purchase any items you may have forgot or run out of.  The lake is beautiful, and perfect for a daytime swim, and even enjoying the beautiful scenery.   They offer plenty of outstyle house portapotties but surprisingly enough they were super cleaned, and actually smelled very nice too. You can tell they really take pride and care of the bathrooms.

Because the slanted, close camping areas we decided not to camp there again.  But that doesn't change the fact that the lake is so beautiful and perfect for swimming so we decided to visit Lake Jenkinson for day use.  When my friend recently uploaded a photo of a beautiful waterfall, I just had to go there too.  Come to find out, it was very close to where we had originally camped at.  My husband and I got a baby sitter for the day and headed to Sly Park for a fun nature hike.

Now, if you know me, then you know I am not really the hiker type but it doesn't matter because I was determinded to visit the waterfall.  And it also didn't matter because the hike only took us about 45 minutes there and 45 minutes back.  The hike is near the lake, so if you get a little hot you can vear off the trail and take a refreshing dip in the lake.  Once you reach the bridge, rest assure you have almost made it to the waterfall.

Unfortunately, once we arrived at the waterfall, there was no more than a tiny trinkle of water.  There were a couple other people there and was couple was kind enough to snap a few pictures of us.
