For most of us, electronics run our lives, from the moment we wake up, to the moment we go to sleep. Sometimes our children rely too much on electronics, for entertainment, instead of being able to entertain themselves. When I was young we played with our dolls, made forts, climbed trees, and thought up fun games to play, but sadly today my children play video games, listen to their MP3 Players and just don't do the activities that I use to when I was their age. That is why I was looking forward to reviewing the book "101 Offline Activities You Can Do With Your Child."
This book is by Steve and Ruth Bernnett, the authors of the bestselling 365 TV-Free Activities You Can Do With Your Child. As you flip through the pages you will find fun activities that will help you interact with your children, and provide hours of fun and enjoyment, while using no electronics at all! You can participate in the activities no matter where you are at including at home, while waiting in line, and in the car(depending upon the activity). The Sign Jumbles and Log Those Plates are a very fun game to play while riding in the car, my children really had a blast playing them.
"What Did You Say" is a really fun game that can be played with your entire family. I am a stay at home mother , so each day while daddy is at work, my kids and I have been choosing a new activity to play. My seven year old had been practicing his math skills while playing the Macaroni math Activity. I think their overall favorite activity is the Kitchen Bowling and Other Sports. This book can be purchased online at Amazon.com, or at Barnes and Noble Booksellers.
I have a great idea for an activity to add to the book. This activity requires nothing, but a piece of paper, a pen, and your thinking cap! You simply think of a theme, such as "Baby", or "Fruits and Vegetables". After you come up with a theme you list each letter of the alphabet on each line. Then you think of a word that starts with each letter that pertains to the alphabet. (for the example I only listed A-C, but for the game you should list A-Z.
Example:
"FRUIT"-
APPLE
BANANA
CHERRY
The person to come up with the most words wins! Please note that you should only list one word per letter. This game is a lot of fun, and can be played while on the road, or in your house. It also makes a great game for a Baby Shower, or Birthday Party.
