Cozy's Complete Guide to Girls' Hair

What You’ll Need:

 Wide-tooth comb

Fine-tooth comb

Hair clip

Ponytail holders

Time:

15 minutes

Step 1: Starting with damp hair (either towel-dried or misted), use a wide-tooth comb to detangle the hair.  Then, using a fine-tooth comb, part the hair down the middle of the head.  Clip one side up right above the ear.

Step 2: On the other side of the part, use the fine comb to gather a thin section of hair from the crown.  This section should measure about 2 inches from the hairline to the top of the head.

Step 3: Divide this section into three, and begin a French braid starting at the crown and curving toward the temple, then toward the back of the head, like the top lobe of a heart.  You will be lifting hair into the braid only from this side of the part.  Leave no loose hair in front of the ears.

Step 4: When you reach the center part at the back of the head, secure the braid with a ponytail holder.  If the hair is very long, end the braid about midear; the ends will hang down the back.

Step 5: Unclip the hair on the other side of the part and repeat the process.  Secure with a ponytail holder.

Step 6: Join the ends of the braids together in the back with a ponytail holder to form the bottom point of the heart.

Now, I don't have any daughters but I do have three sons,  each with different hair types.  My first son had straight hair,  my second son has very curly hair, and my third son has very loose soft curls so I was able to find out some interesting things about all three of their hair.  When I read about how important it is not to brush curly hair because it will make it look fuzzy I just nodded my head because I couldnt agree more!  That has happened way too many times so I knew exactly what they are talking about.  It is best to comb curly hair with a wide tooth comb when it is wet which is what we usually have to do to style his hair.  

While flipping though the Trendy Tails section I came across a style that really caught my eye,  the wrapped ponytail.  I myself would love to do my hair like this but I am waiting for a special occasion which just so happens to be this weekend when I go on an overnight vacation.   The Braid Brigade section is really cool,  especially for me because I only know how to do regular braids.  The Braid Brigade section will teach you how to do all kinds of neat braids from basic to more intricate such as the Fishtail Braid.  In a hurry and need to fix your daughters hair within only 5 minutes?  No problem,  there is even a section for that too!

The red barrel really stands out and makes a bold statement,  while the black handle matches perfectly with it.  I love to curl my hair especially if I get all dressed up,  so I knew I would more than likely be using it sooner than later,  and sure enough before I knew it I had a party to attend.   I pulled the curling iron out,   and decided to put it to the test,  and guess what?  It passed with flying colors and then some!  I'm not very patient and absolutely hate to wait,  so you can only image how pleased I was when the curling iron started heating up in merely seconds!  Because of all of the heat settings you can find the perfect setting for your hair. I decided to set it half way,  which is twenty,  but it reaches all the way up to forty.  If you choose to turn it up all the way to forty,  it reaches a sizzling 428 degrees C.

When I did the flat iron review,  my hair was three inches longer,  and reached the very base of my back, but I recently got 3 inches cut off my hair.  My hair is still very long,  so not all curling irons work on my hair,  but this one worked perfectly.  I loved the fact that this curling iron leaves me with bouncy curls,  full of life.  Not to mention,  my hair stayed looking freshly curled almost the entire day long.  I had a lot of fun playing with the curling iron and curling my hair in different syles and curls(as you can see in the pictures).  I  curled my hair in ringlets,  curled the bottoms under and over,  and in loose soft dangling curls.  I also had a lot of fun curling my bangs and creating styles by pulling long pieces of my hair to the front of my face.  The curling iron creates many different looks and styles,  so the shape and style of your curls are endless. 

I really appreciate it's long heavy duty cord because I can plug it into my wall,  and then sit down and curl my hair if I choose too.   My thin hair remains perfectly wrapped around the barrel,  which does not always happen when I use other curling irons.  Usually my hair tends to slip off the barrel,  and I end up having to redue it,  but not when I'm using my Babyliss Pro Tourmaline Ceramic Curling Iron!  The rubberized handle is very easy to grip and keep a hold on.  This specific curling iron is available in five different barrel sizes,  so you can find the perfect size your looking for.

Zachs Wax

I recently stumbled upon an awesome site called Zachs Wax.  They offer a colorful,  temporary wax that can be easily applied to your hair.  Not only is it for Children and Teenagers,  but also for adults too!  Zachs Wax is a family owned and operated business by Eric,  his wife,  and their four children.  This is one of those products that I would have loved to use as a child. 

Zachs Wax sent me two of their Extreme Color Gels to review!  I decided to use the Green one on my oldest sons hair,  and the pink one on my hair(just for fun).  The Gels arrived in a tie string bag with their logo featured on the front.  Each of the squeezable tubes weigh only one ounce,  but you do not need to use a lot to color your hair,  unless you have long hair(like mine).  They come in 9 different bright colors so there is sure to be a color for everyone!  Mine just so happened to be the Pink as Pink is my favorite color!  They also provide an applicator and pair of dispossable gloves for each tube of color.

My son was super excited about trying the Green colored Gel in his hair.  His hair is short and somewhat spiky,  so it didn't take much to color his hair!  It was easy to apply and a ton of fun!  This would be great to use during Halloween or for "Spirit Week" at my sons school.  It didn't make a mess like many other types of colored Gels does.  It turned out to be surprisingly easy to wash out of my sons hair.  One wash and shampoo later,  and it was all gone. 

So since my son had so much fun using it I thought I might try it out as well.  It didn't surprise me at all that it took allot more for me to color my hair with the gel than it did my son.  You see,  my hair reaches my sacroiliac joints so it is very long.  That didn't stop it from working though!  I used it to streak my hair with Pink highlights! 

I remember one time in high school when I streaked my hair with permanent dye and even had to bleach the strips out first.  My hair took two years before all of the evidence was gone.  This was so much easier since it washes right out.  I wish I would have been able to purchase this product back then.  Although we used only one color gel in our hair,  you can mix and match as many Gel colors in your hair that you would like.
